Stephanie Zeilinger Memorial Scholarship
She wanted to give back and share all the love and support she was receiving.
The family and friends of Stephanie Zeilinger have established a scholarship to honor her memory. Stephanie Zeilinger, the daughter of Robert and Barbara, excelled both in the classroom and on the playing field. Stephanie was a member of the Student Council and was involved in basketball, volleyball, and track. Well-liked and respected by both peers and superiors, Stephanie led an active social life.

Shortly into her junior year of high school, Stephanie was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. Although undergoing surgeries, chemotherapy, and immune therapy, Stephanie was determined to maintain her grades and to graduate with her class. She graduated in June, 1991, a member of the National Honor Society, fourth in her class of 115.

Stephanie possessed a positive attitude, much courage and determination, and a loving, giving personality. Throughout it all, she had a bright, contagious smile and laugh, signs of her strong faith and energetic spirit. When she became unable to continue in competitive sports, Stephanie became involved in coaching youth league volleyball and basketball at St. Lorenz, experiencing the joy of sharing and helping young people. This experience, along with the exposure to many, many loving and caring doctors, teachers, family, and friends, made Stephanie's career goals clear. She wanted to give and share what she had learned with others, particularly the young. At the time of her unexpected death on January 22, 1992, Stephanie was excitedly pursuing a degree in special education at Michigan State University.

It is the hope of Stephanie's family and friends that this scholarship will benefit enthusiastic students with a zest for life in attaining their college goals and go on to help and to give to others.
