Meyer-Lier Eagle Scout Scholarship

Meyer-Lier Eagle Scout Scholarship

Scouting came to Frankenmuth in 1944 when the Frankenmuth Noon Rotary Club
chartered Boy Scout Troop 55 and had 17 local boys sign up with the new Troop.

Louis W. Meyer, a teacher in the St. Lorenz Tuscola District, was the first Scoutmaster
of the Troop. Joseph Georg Lier, who in 1925 was a 19-year-old immigrant to Frankenmuth from Germany, first became involved with scouting in 1937. Over the next 55 years Joseph Lier was the recipient of many scouting awards, culminating with being a ‘Silver Beaver’, which is the highest national recognition in scouting for having a positive impact on the lives of scouts through the scouting programs.

Frankenmuth’s scouting tradition continues today because of the dedication of Louis Meyer and Joseph Lier beginning with those 17 boys from Troop 55 in 1944.

The Meyer-Lier Eagle Scout Scholarship Fund honors the legacy of Louis Meyer and
Joseph Lier and recognizes Frankenmuth Scouts from Troop 055 who take on the challenge to earn the coveted Eagle Scout Rank, where nationally only 5% of scouts achieve that honor.

Frankenmuth Scouting has lived the Past, is strong in the Present, and looks to the Future, where it is hoped Frankenmuth Scouting and the Meyer-Lier Eagle Scout Scholarship Fund will be there for future generations of Eagle Scouts, thanks to the stewardship of the Frankenmuth Community Foundation.

The first Eagle Scout from Troop 55 was Louis Meyer, Jr.in 1946.
