"Quiet, unassuming gentlemen."
These two brothers, born in Mundy Township, spent their lives as farmers, following in their father's and grandfather's footsteps. They successfully cultivated 200 acres and neither brother ever married. When they retired from farming in 1982, they moved to Frankenmuth's Independence Village, becoming the first residents. They loved to play pool and the two bachelors did all their own cooking. Despite their humble beginnings, the brothers were amazed at how much they accumulated during their lives and how they were able to help out others through their gifts. When they died in 1991 and 1992, Alton and Herbert left their estate primarily to charities as a legacy that will add to the growth of Frankenmuth.
